1. ChatGPT can resume in Italy if meets data watchdog's demands
   
   Italian data watchdog, Garante, demands OpenAI to address ChatGPT's privacy concerns by April 30. Garante requires OpenAI to inform users of data processing methods, provide data correction and deletion tools, introduce age verification system, and allow non-users to oppose data processing. Other EU privacy watchdogs are also studying ChatGPT's privacy concerns.

   
   

2. The AI 'Pause' Proposal Is Deceptive and Alarmingly Hazardous
   
   Tech giants signed a letter calling for a pause on developing AI models more powerful than GPT-4. This letter is concerning because it consolidates their dominance and could harm the economy and people. “We should not let a handful of billionaires decide what's good for the world. Instead, we need free and open development of AI models, like EleutherAI, to ensure everyone benefits. We must remain vigilant against those who seek to control humanity's destiny and promote independence, humanity, and openness in AI technology.”

   
   

3. China races to regulate AI after playing catchup to ChatGPT
   
   China has released draft regulations to control the use of generative artificial intelligence by tech companies. Companies must register and have their generative AI products assessed for security before they are released. Regulations cover all aspects of generative AI, including training, user interaction and content. Beijing aims to control the technology that has advanced rapidly, prompting warnings from tech leaders like Elon Musk and Steve Wozniak. While the US is yet to regulate AI, the European Union has proposed legislation that would ban and regulate “high risk” AI. Brazil is also working on draft AI regulation.
   
   

4. Streaming sites urged not to let AI use music to clone pop stars
   
   The music industry is warning streaming platforms like Spotify and Apple Music not to let artificial intelligence use copyrighted songs for training. Record label Universal Music Group fears that AI labs will scrape millions of tracks to copy pop stars. The Recording Industry Association of America has also expressed similar concerns. The use of copyrighted material for AI training could infringe on intellectual property rights. The industry's trade body says AI-based technology is able to be almost as good as reference tracks by famous recording artists, which could make unauthorized copies of their works.

   
   

5. Meta will debut its generative AI this year
   
   Meta intends to commercialize its generative AI technology in December, applying it to all its products, such as Facebook and Instagram. Meta's generative AI team's focus is to improve ad effectiveness, and they plan to integrate the technology into the metaverse development for accessible content creation. While concerns persist over human control over civilization, Meta's CTO emphasizes responsible development. The company's AI technology advances can enhance ad targeting and effectiveness, as well as enable immersive advertising experiences in the metaverse.
